Confessions of an ADD Cleaner

I have a confession to make. ADD cleaning is a huge problem for me. For example, this morning I was getting the house ready to show at 11 am. It wasn't too bad since I've been attempting to keep it as close to show ready as I can. Here is where my dilemma comes in. I start out in my room with making the bed and I pick up some stuff that belongs in the girls room. So I take it into their room and realize that I'm not going to be able to clean their room while Babs is napping so I should go ahead and clean in here first. So, I actually finish in there, miracle of miracles, and then I flat iron my hair and pick up the bathroom a little. Logical. The girls are hungry so we have a little breakfast and afterwards I decide to work on the kitchen because the dirty dishes need to be loaded into the dishwasher. Then it's time to wipe down all the counters and I realize that I can do that during Babs nap. So I vacuum. As I'm vacuuming I end up picking up the girls room again...I'm not sure how they do it, but it gets messy again 30 seconds after cleaning it. The vacuum gets left in the living room because...I don't know. Then it's back to the kitchen counters and table and then I put the vacuum away. And this is a good day where I'm concentrating on not ADD cleaning. Everything does end up clean and I get lots of exercise walking from room to room.
I have tried a few different things in order to curb my problem. For instance, I would use a basket and everything that didn't belong in that room went into the basket to be taken out all at once. Which works well if you don't get off track in the next room taking out the contents that belong there. And if you remember to empty the basket at all. It doesn't work all that well when you set it aside to empty it "later" because 5 minutes later, I've already moved onto the next shiny thing.
Am I the only one who does this? Or is this the right way to clean?!?!?

I have no advice cuz as we all know I'm totally anal like Monica on Friends. My problem is that I just don't understand why everyone else isn't exactly like me! :)

Cheffy hates cleaning with me because I clean much like you do. I almost focus totally on one room, then I realize I could be doing something else & wander. Something like the fridge will be clean, the dishes are not done yet, but I'm in cleaning the toilet because somehow I managed to relate it all together & it needed to be done NOW!

I'm totally a wandering cleaner! I have the hardest time staying focused on one room at a time. No advice here!! Sorry!

No wonder I like you...we have the same cleaning style. I'm glad to know there is a name for our problem! I feel a bit better knowing I've been identified as an ADD Cleaner!
Really I do exactly what you're saying. I usually start in the kitchen. If I can concentrate long enough without getting distracted once it's clean I feel so much better. Somehow having a clean kitchen makes me feel like the rest of the house isn't so bad. Of course I'm easily distracted by shiny objects too!

Well, I'm happy to hear that it's not just me. Now I can just carry on merrily in my ADD ways and maybe get something done! Ooohhhh...I see something shiny.....
