Name Change

So, I've decided to change my oldest child's name. Not in real life, just in blog life. Chicky just wasn't doing it for me. Her name is now officially Lolly. I'm going to try that out and see if that works a little bit better.

Laundry Love

So I've decided to totally steal an idea from one of my blogging idols, Daring Young Mom, and start doing Tip Tuesday. It may not last longer than this week, but we'll burn that bridge when we get to it.

Todays tip is about laundry. As we all know, I don't exactly love house work. It's not one of my best talents, but I do excel somewhat with laundry. It's the only chore that I actually enjoy. Sad that I'm admitting that for the world wide web, but there you go. As much as I enjoy doing laundry, I don't have all day to spend on it and get seriously annoyed by stains. It's a vanity thing. So, I have started keeping a bottle of shout on the changing table in the girls room and every night when we get them in their jammie's I spot treat their clothes before putting them in the laundry basket. I cannot tell you how much of a difference that has made. It has saved me hours of frustration and also my laundry ego.

So, are there any laundry tips that anyone is willing to share to make life just a bit easier?
Anyone? Anyone?

Happy Easter!

We have had a wonderful Easter season this year. We had the chance to spend some extra time with all of the grandparents this weekend and the girls have enjoyed it immensely.

Here is Babs enjoying a little spring time swinging after the family Easter Egg Hunt.

Here are the pictures after a long, hard day of partying Easter style.

Some unappreciated sisterly love.

But, when all was said and done, our little girls had a wonderful day. And the early bed time to go along with it! I had wanted to get a good picture to show off their matching Easter dresses, but I think my best chance of doing that is when they're on hangers!

BEHOLD!

The present maker, as it is known around our house.

"She began cutting and we stopped talking, both of us listening, I think, to the sound of the scissors. For those of us enamored of the world of textiles, this sound is a little symphony. It conjures an image of a head bent over a machine, the feel of fabric slipping through fingers, a small light focused on a field of intimate labor."

Holiday Feast

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, we had corned beef for dinner. I've tried making this the last few years and it's yet to turn out all that good. Maybe next year. In the interest of redeeming our dinner, I decided to make Irish Scones, since it was pretty much the only recipe that I could find that I had all the ingredients for. They turned out surprisingly good. They taste kind of like a sweet biscut-y type of scone. So, to share my good fortune in finding a good recipe, I'm sharing it all with you.

Irish Scones
1/2 cup butter
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup milk

Preheat oven to 425 degrees
In large bowl combine butter and flour until it crumbly. Then add baking powder, salt & sugar.
In a separate bowl combine egg & milk. Then add to dry ingredients.
Turn onto floured surface and roll dough to 1 inch thick. Cut 2 inch rounds; I used the lid for a bottle because that was the only thing I could find! Place on greased cookie sheet 1 inch apart.
Bake 15 minutes. Makes about 18

I highly recommend putting something on them like jam or butter because they're a bit on the dry side. But they turned out better than the corned beef!

Cake Contest!

So, as I was reading my daily dose of Mormon Mommy Wars, I read this comment about a contest another blog was having, so I decided to check out her blog. I don't know her in real life, but she does make some beautiful cakes! So, anyone who is interested can post this link on their blog and be entered to win a fabulous, calorie filled prize! Yum!

That is SO me!

In the interest of full disclosure and a lack of anything entertaining to write about, I have chosen an embarrassing moment to share with all 3 of my adoring fans. As those of you who know me in real life can attest, I'm not exactly what you would consider "athletic", but I try just the same. A few years ago, BC (before children), I used to actually go to the gym more than once a week and took a Pilates class on Tuesday evenings. This one particular summer evening I was running a little late, which usually never happens to me! It was a very crowded class and I wanted to be able to get one of the prime spots in the back of the classroom so that there were a limited number of people that could watch my pathetic attempt at flexibility. I was fully decked out in my yoga pants and flip flops with the requisite bottle of water. As I was running up the stairs, I had the misfortune of tripping....and totally sprawling on the stairs right by the group of people waiting to get into the class. Oh, but it gets better. The lid on my water bottle was up, so not only did I trip in front of a bunch of people, but I sprayed myself in the face with water at the same time. Classy! But I pulled myself up off the stairs, mostly because I didn't really have a choice, and bravely went up the last three stairs only to find the entire group of people waiting for the Pilates class staring at me with the look that says "seriously, you shouldn't be here". But I went to the class anyway because I figured that I was already there, so I might as well stay. And I knew if I left now, I would probably never go back!
So, there you have it. A look inside the life of me. It's a good thing that I've learned to laugh at myself because otherwise I might be the only one not laughing!

The Determination of Babs

As those of you who know my girls, you know that they have, shall we say, strong personalities. They were born with a full set of opinions and the ability to express them...loudly. This little story demonstrates how much determination can exist in one tiny little body.

One day while I was making bread, Babs was in her high chair right by me eating her newest favorite snack...a saltine cracker. Chicky was prancing in and out of the kitchen, having lost interest in the numerous cups of flour that I was adding. One twirl into the kitchen showed her that Babs, 9 months old at the time, had a cracker and she did not. Being 3 years old, she decided to take it from her. My back was to them, adding flour to the bread, but I heard this squealing in the background that made me turn to look. Chicky had both hands on the cracker trying, but not succeeding, to get it from Babs. And Babs had both hands clutching that cracker for dear life and was trying to scream while keeping her mouth locked around the cracker like it was the last one on Earth. Of course, at this point I intervened and gave Chicky her own cracker and Babs continued eating her cracker with a triumphant gleam in her eyes. I have a feeling that this is just the first of many power struggles between the sisters. Near as I can tell, they're pretty even for the time being.

Mobile Swap

Back in January I stumbled upon a blogger, elsie marley, who was doing a mobile swap for anyone who wanted to participate. On a whim, I signed up. And then panicked later. But I was lucky enough to get to make a mobile for an adorable four year old nature girl.
Here are some not so fabulous pictures, but hopefully you get the idea.
And some more detailed pictures....
Now it's just a matter of loading up my girls and braving the post office to get it mailed!
