Names have been changed to protect the innocent...and my husband...and me...but not the dog. His name is Dexter.

Thankful

We started our Thanksgiving party weekend with homemade (Rhodes) cinnamon rolls and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in our jammies.
Then we headed on up to Denny's for our holiday dinner. This year we were with CG's family and since we did a big dinner on Monday night with his immediate family (of only 40 or so people) we had a more easy going Thanksgiving Day dinner. The thing that made this so nice was that we just happened to go to the Denny's that CG's kinda adopted brother's mother is the manager of.....wow, that was a mouthful. Anyway, she made it feel like we were having dinner at her home and it was wonderful.
Babs view of Thanksgiving.
Then CG headed to his parents house with the girls while I walked home with a couple of my sisters-in-law and nieces. Yes, I walked. I had a cherry sprite to work off! Among other things.
And then it came the important Thanksgiving tradition. The nap with whichever baby is willing to snuggle! Love the hair?!
And, lest you think I could go an entire holiday weekend without doing something stupid, keep on reading. I really wanted a traditional Thanksgiving dinner....turkey, stuffing, the works. But, of course, we were running late and were a little frazzled by the time we got there and the waitress was working her way around the table about 30 seconds later. Lolly was insisting that she wanted grapes and fries for lunch and nothing else. I was trying to convince her to get something healthy to go with it....like pizza. Needless to say, I didn't have much time to find something for myself and I missed the little sign advertising their turkey dinner.
When I did finally see it I asked if I could switch and it was switched after much trouble causing on my part. But they were pretty busy. And the message didn't quite make it to all the right places at all the right times. So, I ended up with what I originally ordered and they brought CG the turkey dinner that I had ordered...instead of what he ordered. CG graciously took my country fried steak (a sacrifice, I know) just so that I could have that turkey dinner. I'm lucky they didn't kick me out!
But it gets better!!! That night as I was tucking my turkey leftovers safely in the fridge, the box somehow leaped from the fridge and onto the kitchen floor. My food spilled out, although the girls food was just fine. I guess it just was not meant to be. But Dexter got a Thanksgiving feast!

A New Purse=A New Person

Or, at the very least, a new outlook on life and travel. Here are a few pictures of my new lovely.

Isn't she a beauty?

With lots of storage space. I'm all about storage space.

And it holds all of my "necessary" junk without any unattractive bulging. Because we all know how attractive bulging is.

Fabulous.

Friday Favorite-Real Simple

I just love this magazine. It's one of the few that I would actually purchase. It always has wonderful ideas and information and it actually encourages you to simplify not to make your life more complicated by implying that your holiday just isn't complete until you have a hand made life size paper mache recreation of the nativity scene.

And, just because I thought it was hilarious, go look here. It really is worth the click. ;o)

True Confessions....

...I am not, in fact, an adult. I'm just a teenager with a mortgage.

Tomorrow night at 7 pm I will be sitting in an unnamed movie theater watching "Twilight" with my unnamed sister in law. I am giddy. Can you feel my giddiness? Well, I'm trying to be all refined and mature about it. Is it working?

And not only am I going to see the movie made from the book that I have, at times, been immaturely obsessive about, but I'm going out for a girls night! And, by girls night, I'm not talking about my adorable Lolly and Babs. There will be no diaper changing, face washing or time outs. This is going to be mommy's time out! In the Twilight Zone!

100 Years of Magic Shared With 100 Pictures

This past Saturday we took our girls to see Disney On Ice and there was much excitement all around! Possibly, most of it was coming from me, but that's beside the point. And this exciting day is best expressed in pictures. Brace yourselves......

Here we all are as the show is just starting. Lolly didn't much care for the announcers voice....it scared her, poor thing.
There were little bits from quite a few of their movies. I didn't take any pictures from the Lion King. Let's just say that the lions outfits were quite a bit on the anatomically correct side and I figured y'all didn't need to see that! Although the pictures could have been helpful in future discussions involving birds or bees.
There was also a section devoted to all the lovely Princesses dancing with their Handsome Princes. That was Lolly's favorite.
Babs seemed enjoy Mickey & Minnie the very most, although she was delighted with just about everything she saw. Even the giant bags of cotton candy that came with a crown with ears, of which we did not partake.
It was lovely.
The After Show

And I'd like to take this time to share a religious epiphany with everyone. It is my firm belief that if they served nachos at church attendance would go WAY up. You're welcome. ;o)

Friday Favorite-Heard Around Here, II

Once again it is time to share a few of my favorite things that I have heard around here lately.

Lolly
While we were watching an Elmo's World about taking care of your teeth:
Me: How do you take care of your teeth?
Lolly: I brush them and take them for a walk.

Babs
She's in that hitting phase, but it's nothing personal! ;o) Whenever she hits her sister I tell her to say sorry and give her loves. And she says it....."sowwy"!

Babs also says no a lot. When she means no it is very fierce, but when she means yes she says "no" with a smile and nod.

And.....that's all I've got for today. I think I have a chocolate hangover from last night. We had a baby shower for my sister and there was a chocolate fountain. A CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN! By the time we wrestled the girls into bed, they were both buzzed on chocolate and a little twitchy. Today we're detoxing, which is my official excuse for my lack of words to share.

Recipe Swap Wednesday-Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Cookies

Just barely Wednesday, I know. It's been a long day....don't ask. ;o)
This is a recipe that I found on another blog, Notes From the Cookie Jar. I made them for CG on Halloween for our anniversary. Engagement anniversary. We're not that weird! ;o) Anyway, these delicious cookies are a combination of peanut butter cookies and peanut butter cups, both of which are CG's favorites. They were a big hit around here. So, without further ado.....

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Cookies
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
4 tablespoons of unsalted butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt

1/3 cup sugar to roll the dough in
30-ish mini peanut butter cups

Pre-heat oven to 350 F.

In a bowl with an electric mixer, cream the peanut butter and butter together until smooth. Add the brown sugar and continue to mix well. Scrape down the sides of the bowl. Add the vanilla and then the eggs, one at a time, beating after each.

In a separate bowl whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt together with a fork. Add to the butter mixture in two separate batches, slowly mixing until just combined.

Using about a tablespoon of dough per cookie, roll the dough into a ball, then in the sugar. Place about 2 inches apart on a baking sheet. Place the sheet in a pre-heated oven and bake for approximately 7 minutes. Remove the cookies from the oven and press a peanut butter cup into each one, then return to the oven for about 6 more minutes or until the cookies appear set and the bottoms are golden.

Allow to cool slightly before you remove them from the cookie sheet to a rack and enjoy
!

One Good Book Swap!

We were lucky enough to participate in the One Good Book swap over at Life With Nature Girl last month and it was lots of fun. Our swap partners were Becky and Eliza over at Whosies and not only is Becky the mother of four children, she is super talented and very generous! Here are some pictures of the adorable swap package that she sent to Babs & Lolly.

Here they are opening the package. Well, Lolly is opening and Babs is vogueing.
Immediate success with a new box of crayons. Seriously, they're the only crayons that Lolly will color with now.
Wow! We just keep pulling more wonderful treasures out!
A picture of all the fabulousness that was sent to our home.
And I just had to get a close up of these adorable little dolls that were included. If you want some for yourself, you can buy them at her etsy shop, here.
And here is a picture of the Book Swap package that we sent to Eliza. Why, yes, that picture was taken on our Coochie Coochie blanket in our van just before packing it up and shipping it off.....two weeks late. I am so not worthy!

Friday Favorite-Yoga Rock Star

This morning I decided to do some yoga "with" my girls (insert laughing here). Lolly had actually requested karate, but since I don't really know karate we had to go with karate's best friend yoga. At the end I was doing a few stretching poses which included the bridge pose. Now, this was not your standard bridge pose. It included Babs laying across the top of me and Lolly alternating between crawling under my legs (that is what a bridge is for, right?!) and saying "wow" as she patted my rather substantial belly. Stretch marks really are fascinating. (Didn't I just make this your favorite of all Friday Favorites with giving you that visual?! I thought so.)

I came to the conclusion that if you can hold your pose and concentration during all this than you are truly a yoga rock star.

I am not a yoga rock star. Better luck next time. ;o)

Snow Day!

The view from my kitchen door. Yes, I know, two power poles in our yard.
Attractive, no?

The view from my kitchen window. It's beautiful any time of year. It almost makes doing dishes enjoyable. Almost.
Lolly working on her snowman.
Photo op with the snowman.
A successful day in the snow.
