April Fools and My Poor Lolly

Before this afternoon, I didn't really have anything planned for April Fools Day. I know! It's so unlike me! So, I spent a little quality time on the Internet this afternoon and concocted a plan. Lolly is sick today but rallied enough to color a special April Fools Day card for CG. And then for dinner we had cupcakes!
They were meatloaf and mashed potatoes cupcakes, but still fun. Babs was all for it while she was licking the mashed potato off, but lost interest after that. After the first taste, Lolly would have nothing to do with it. Being sick makes jokes slightly less humorous than normal. CG loved them.
And did I mention that Lolly is sick?! My poor little girl. She started running a fever yesterday afternoon and, although she was tired and not interested in playing, she insisted that she felt fine and was not sick. And when she crawled into bed with us at 1:45 am and kept me up for over two hours, she had a pretty good excuse, even if she didn't realize it. All day today she has continued with a mild fever and listlessness....and the insistence that she felt fine. She would occasionally breathe a little funny, but she wasn't congested, doesn't have a cough and the breathing wasn't that worrisome. It just sounded like she was holding her breath and then releasing it loudly.

After dinner tonight, I called our clinic and asked the on-call nurse/doctor if I should bring her in or not. They told me to take her to Primary Children's Hospital! Um, what?! I didn't think the nurse was really "hearing" me and tried to explain again. They told us to take her to Primary Children's Hospital, again. I told them I would feel more comfortable bringing her into the office first because that just didn't seem necessary and I didn't want to subject her to that unless it really was necessary.

Five minutes later the nurse calls back and tells me that she's spoken to the doctor and they think we should take her up to Primary's. Lolly can be heard wailing in the background about not wanting to go to the doctor's office. There's no way we're going straight to an emergency room without a doctor first saying it's necessary....in person. The nurse was SO annoyed. Yes, she's sick, but I really didn't think she was that sick. She then informed me that I needed to be prepared that she might have to go to the hospital if any breathing treatments are needed, either by ambulance or by us. And if she needed to be at a hospital, they couldn't stop me from taking her there, but it just seemed to me they were REALLY overreacting.

SO. We took her to the clinic, they did some tests and, so far, she has strep throat and a possible UTI. Not good, but not emergency room worthy, either. They said that her lungs sounded fine but that her oxygen level was low. It averaged at 93. Is that low? I didn't think that was considered low, but I'm not a doctor either. Anyone know? The doctor wants us to bring her back in tomorrow afternoon to make sure that she's getting better. I'm really hoping that she's feeling much better by tomorrow and the other test results don't bring up anything else.

As we were leaving she said she was feeling better already. Of course, doctor ordered popsicles are bound to make any child feel better. Plus, I have an irrational need to spoil my children when they get sick. It helps them get better faster. Really!

are you sure it wasn't those meatloaf cupcakes that made her sick? i am so just kidding, i think that is such an awesome joke. it would be so weird to think you are biting into a cupcake and you get this meatloaf mash patatoes taste instead....i would totally spit it out due to shock. after recovering, i would eat them up though cause i love meatloaf and mashed patatoes...yum!

I have the same question. Little Man's runs about 94. I guess you don't know if that is low for Lolly or not, since you haven't had it done when she wasn't sick. Hope she is feeling better soon!

None fun for Lolly. I'm glad you didn't really have to take her to Primary's. I hope she gets better soon.

Thanks for the Lolly love! She seems to be feeling quite a bit better today doesn't even seem to be running much of a fever. Yay!

The cupcake holders are silicone and they worked great because I could drain the grease out of each little meat loaf before I put the "frosting" on.

Meatloaf cupcakes? Are you for real? The poor child was already sick! I hope she is feeling better and I hope you lose this recipe! LOL

The cupcake thing was a great idea. Lolly would have been all for it if she'd been feeling better. For the record the silicone cupcake cups are awesome. My muffins always turn out super moist and yummy. Same with the cupcake mold. I will be switching to silicone for my other stuff as well.
