Farmer's Market Spoils

I love going to the farmer's market.  It's just wonderful.  I especially love the downtown Salt Lake City farmer's market at Pioneer Park.  There is just something about it.  It has such a community feeling.  People are friendly and there is so much to see.  My girls had a great time going and were surprised by how friendly people were, which is really saying something since random strangers talk to them everywhere we go. 

The first ladies we met had fresh heirloom tomato seeds and beautiful bouquets of lavender.  They are the official late bloomin' heirlooms.  They shared some lavender with us and also gave me a few recipes to use it in.  I believe they also teach classes, if you're interested. 

I can't remember if we've discussed it or not, but we give the girls the opportunity to earn money by doing extra chores around the house.  We call them sticker chores and have a sticker chart to keep track of how much they have earned.  They are then allowed to spend that money however they want...within reason.  We do this in the hopes of slowly teaching them the concept of money management at a young age.  When we went to the farmer's market they both had some sticker money that had been burning a hole in their pockets for quite a while.  Now that they understand that they have to work for this extra money, they are a lot more careful how they spend it.  It has to be something good! 

We walked through the market looking at all the wonderful treats.  We didn't go into the main craft area but there were some throughout the market.  That's where they found The Soap Lady.  Beautiful handmade soaps that are almost too pretty to use.  And the smell!  Oh my goodness, these soaps smelled so yummy you could eat them. I refrained though.  They both decided to spend their hard earned money on some fancy soap.  Lolly chose a George Washington cherry soap that looked like a flag and Babs chose a yummy smelling rainbow soap.  They have never been so excited to take a shower!  That makes it worth it right there.  I especially loved the Mango Coconut soap.  I didn't buy it though and regretted it as soon as we got home.  Maybe next time....
