Dream House?

Surely I'm not the only one in the world who had thoughts of a "dream house" as a child. I could be wrong, but I think I thought more about the "dream house" than the "dream wedding". But I've been thinking lately. Dangerous, I know. Rest assured that I only have about 10 minutes a day to have any thoughts not relating to parenting, feeding, clothing, or cleaning so I'm limited in how much damage I can do.

Does the "dream house" really exist? At least for regular people? And by regular people I mean non-millionaires. My definition of regular is pretty open.

Do most people live in their dream house? Or have a plan to get there? Or has this particular American Dream gone the way of June Cleaver and clean air?
Granted, the definition of a dream can change over your lifetime and that's the same for a house. A large house full of bathrooms and bedrooms would be a dream to a young and large family, but later on a house with less bedrooms and larger entertaining areas for all the children, spouses and grandchildren would be the dream.

Or do we spend 30+ years paying off a house that we don't love? Or even like? Pouring our blood, sweat, tears and bank account into what we could get? Are we destined to live in a soul-sucking entity with a never-ending list of things that need to be repaired, replaced and re-done? And possibly added-on?
Thank you Google for the pictures.

Or maybe the new "dream house" is about being lucky enough to have a house for our family to come home to.

What do YOU think? I need someone else to think some more for me because my 10 minutes are up.

I would love a larger house and have thought we would move from our small condo, much sooner than now. But I realize how that makes me sad and how cheap our mortgage is! So I guess it will be our dream house for now.

We've lived so many places and tried so many different set-ups we have quite the laundry list of things we'd like to have as well as things we're not willing to budge on. It will probably be many more years down the road yet and we'll probably never have all of it but I'm okay with that.

One of my friends is having some of the same feelings you sound like you're having. They're not sure if they want to stay in their house and work on it for the rest of their lives or find something else that will require less work.

I used to think I'd love an old home that I can restore or whatever but as I get older I'm thinking I don't want to live in construction zone after construction zone. ODD's not a fan of old homes but I really like the charm some of them have (can we agree on anything?) so we're not sure if someday we'll buy or build. I guess it depends on where we are and what we can find.

And now my 10 minutes are up. We'll have to chat about this more the next time we play.

I used to think my "dream home" was a huge house, but when I realized I have to clean it myself, I'm happpy with my small townhome. Less dirty bathrooms! :)

my dream home is just big enough for the whole family to gather and feel loved inside without feeling claustrophobic.
Oh and it must have at least 3 bathrooms.

My dream home is one that is paid for (no mortgage is a good thing) - and then maybe I could afford to hire people to do all the fixing up and cleaning and such.

Right now my dream house entails having a family to live with me...

Once I get that, I'm thinking my dream house just needs to include a sauna and a big kitchen:)

All I wanted as a child was a home with window boxes to grow colourful flowers in. Didn't think of the splash back on panes from rainy days mind you, but I still tolerate it!

I'm with Momza on this one, only make it 4 bathrooms. My family is yet male dominated!
