Babs is a delicate sleeper. Always has been. As a newborn she had to be on her left side with her head pointing North in order to sleep....for 2 hours and then she would need rotation back up to her side. It was quite the adventure figuring that one out and I honestly don't remember how I did because of the extreme sleep deprivation from that time.
Now that she is 20 months old (can you believe it?!) she is still a delicate sleeper, but manages much better since she can move herself around. But she still has her off nights. Like last night, for instance. After my amazingly restful 3 hours of sleep she decided that she was not able to sleep in her bed unattended. We tried snuggling, binks and a drink. She slept for another hour and then was completely fed up with us. So we snuggled. And snuggled some more. All to no avail. CG finally gave up and went in to work. At 5 AM. At least he'll get off early! After the third time of rocking her to sleep and attempting to put her in her crib, with her waking up every single time, I was done! I put her in her crib to fall asleep on her own. She screamed baby obscenities at me and after about 20 minutes I started knocking on the wall behind our bed that just happens to be the same wall that Babs crib is on. And it actually calmed her down. I knocked out different tunes and patterns with the occasional random knock thrown in for some excitement. There were a few times that I dozed off out of sheer exhaustion. But I would hear a sad little "mama" from Babs that would wake me up enough to keep knocking until she was finally able to fall asleep in her crib.
We won't talk about the puppy (we're currently puppy-sitting) that woke me up 15 minutes later. And then again 2 hours later. Or her cute older sister who actually managed to be awake for a full hour before waking up Babs. We'll just focus on the positive effects of knocking. And the dream of a nap.

Ready For Christmas?!
Well, it's coming....ready or not. But we have accomplished a few of the Chaos Family traditions to help get this party started around here.
We've been making yummies....toffee and chocolate dipped pretzels.
Made snowflakes for the windows. Colored snowflakes. The brown one might just be my favorite!
Attempted pictures in their beautiful Christmas dresses from Grandma Van.
And, most importantly, the Christmas Pedicures!

Holiday Construction
Tonight, for family night, we were adventurous and made a gingerbread house as a family. I'm sure that you can imagine how entertaining that was. And, if not, I'll provide you with some pictures to help you out!
Creating our gingerbread masterpiece! Or, as Lolly says, decorationing our candy cane house.
And because I'm such a health nut....
The finished product! And a new holiday tradition for our family!
The sugared-up girls ready for bed. At least, we were ready for them to go to bed! ;o)
And, now, most likely, it will be dismantled piece by piece when mom isn't looking.

Santa Clause Is Coming To Town!
Well, actually he already came to town for a quick little visit to see Lolly and Babs. The man in red came to visit us while we were visiting Papa and Grandma Fruitsnack. And here is a retelling of the evening with a lot of pictures. I know you love it!
Welcome Santa!
Trying to get Babs a little bit closer...after the first candy bribe.
Papa Fruitsnack proving that Santa isn't that scary.
Nervous girls....
A brave cousin taking advantage of having the big guys undivided attention.
The adults trying to get in good with Santa....some more than others!
And this is as close as Miss Lolly got to Santa this year....we'll try again next year
Lolly telling Uncle D all about the visit and the magical kiss Santa gave her since he just happened to miss the entire thing! Thanks Uncle D!!
And, last but not least, in true Chaos Family tradition....Babs first picture with Santa!

Fully Dressed Fun
We had quite a bit of fun this weekend and it did not involve a shower or sickness of any kind. Something worth celebrating, I tell ya.
On Saturday morning we had our ward Christmas party and it was lots of fun. In honor of the occasion I just had to do the girls hair up in fancy Christmas style!
Since it was a beautiful snowy day, we just had to go out and play in it. For, oh, maybe 10 minutes at most! It was a bit breezy for a lot of snow play, but we had fun anyway!
One of Lolly's little friends was over Saturday night and since the big girls were playing dress up, Babs just had to join in.
We also had a personal visit from Santa, but those details are for a later post.....

More Naked Fun
Sounds exciting, doesn't it?!?! Well, let me tell you....it wasn't.
Lolly and I were enjoying our new bathing rituals tonight and everything was going just swimmingly. She was alternating between the hot pink roll on soap and the new addition of yummy dessert flavored body washes that I just got for my birthday (Thank you Suzie!). She seemed fine, a little whiny and defiant today, but overall she was her usual feisty self.
Then came time for the swap. CG brought in bath-ready Babs and took Lolly to get her in her jammies. They got as far as the hallway before Lolly's dinner made an unexpected reappearance. CG very calmly brought Lolly back to me, still in the shower, to be hosed off and comforted while CG got to clean up the carnage. Lucky guy. But the fun doesn't stop there. The rest of her dinner decided to vacate her poor little stomach. On the bright side she was in the shower so it's easy to clean up. On the not so bright side, Babs was sitting on the shower floor, thankfully at the opposite end of Lolly, with me in the middle. It's a good thing that it's a bathtub shower because it could have been pretty bad otherwise.
So, yeah, never a dull moment. And with a title like that, the possibilities were endless. Maybe I should have been suspicious that something wasn't right because there were no songs being sung at any point during the soaping up......

Bathing Beauties
My shower used to be my "me time". It used to be a time of reflection and quiet thought with little to no interruption. I even shower in the evening so that I can be kid free and not have to worry about which piece of furniture is being climbed or destroyed while I enjoy my peace and quiet.
But that is no more. My cute little Lolly-girl has a tendency towards bladder infections and the doctor suggested that we forgo baths in favor of showers to help prevent future infections. This is not unfamiliar to me because I had the same problems as a child. But she's not a big fan of water, especially if it's on her face. And, seeing as I had the same issue, I try to make it as non-scary for her as possible. And taking a shower without getting water on your face can be quite a challenge.
So, I decided that it would probably be easiest if she just showers with me. No big deal. It would be something cool that big girls get to do. We've only done it a few times, but last night she told me that she wants to take a shower with me now instead of a bath. I'd call that a success.
But, back to my showering experience. You have truly not experienced life until you have had hot pink roll-on soap rubbed all over your badonkadonk butt while the roller (Lolly) sings "Tell Me The Stories of Jesus". Life will never be the same.

At least they're taking turns...
Have I mentioned that my girls are sick? Yep, they are. First, it was Lolly with a little infection. Then, the week after that, it was Babs with a nasty head cold and goopy nose. Now, it's Lolly with a horrible chest cold that I'm really hoping does not turn into croup. And last night...Babs started a little cough in her sleep so I'm bracing myself for round two of the chest cold. Although, on the bright side, both girls actually slept through the night last night for the first time in about a week and a half. Exciting times around here, I tell ya!

Friday Favorite-Festivus for the Restofus
Technically it's known as the Festival of the Trees, but you get the idea. It really is a wonderful tradition. So wonderful, in fact, that trying to find a parking space there was like trying to find a parking space at the temple in January. At least there was no car keying or finger displaying...that I was aware of. ;o)
Every year people donate big trees, little trees, wreaths, ginger bread houses, etc. to be auctioned off for Primary Children's Hospital. Over the last 38 years they have raised over $22 million dollars for the hospital. And many people that donate now have been on the receiving end of this projects generosity.

Ironic that we would choose to pose for pictures right by the Grinch! Babs was looking to escape.

Sears Guilt
One of the things that I look forward to most at this time of year is giving the perfect gift. Not as in spending the most money, but as in spending the time to find that one gift that you know the person on the receiving end will just love, whether it's homemade or store bought. But, the pressure....THE PRESSURE! So, whenever the new-ish Sears commercial comes on I get totally freaked out!
Now, not only am I trying to find the perfect gift, I've got to grant a wish?! I have to find that special gift that will help my girls become the people they were destined to be....like Ty Pennington's tools?!?! PRESSURE!!!!
Wait.....it's just me?! No one else is on the verge of a breakdown because they need to grant a wish, but they've already pretty much finished their Christmas shopping? Oh. ;o)

Lolly-palooza
Recently our Lolly-girl celebrated her 4th birthday and it was quite the extravaganza! We had a full weekend of celebration with a little party with her friend and then a family party with the Papa's and the Grandma's and Uncle Cookie Shirt and Aunt Suzie.
Her party with her little friend was lots of fun. They made beautiful jewelry, had a lovely ladies luncheon, decorated Christmas ornaments and cupcakes. It was quite a day! I had fun too since her friend's mom, who happens to be my friend, came for the party, too. Adult conversation! Yay!
Then we had a little party with some family and had lots of fun.
Oh Happy Day!Singing in the rain!
Flowers from Daddy!
Me and My Girls!
It's a good thing y'all love seeing pictures of my kids! At least I don't post pictures of myself all that often. You're welcome!
