Recipe Swap Wednesday-Scrambled Hamburger

This is a recipe that I had a lot growing up. I've changed it a little bit to suit our needs, but it's a yummy, easy recipe that can be thrown together quickly.

Scrambled Hamburger
1 lb. ground beef or ground turkey
1 onion, diced
2 packets brown gravy mix
2 1/2 cups water

Brown the ground beef in a large skillet, chopping it into small pieces. Drain the excess grease and add the chopped onion. I usually let the onion cook about half way and then add brown gravy packets and 2 1/2 cups water. Then I let it simmer and thicken while I finish cooking the rest of the meal.

I serve it over rice. Since I completely lack the ability to cook non-instant rice, I usually put the rice on to cook in the rice cooker before starting the scrambled hamburger. It's also yummy served over mashed potatoes.

This is such an easy recipe, anyone can make it. No, really, anyone can make it. Try it! You'll like it! (10 points to the first person to tell me where that comes from.)

My Hubs loves simple, homestyle food. I'm sure he'd like this. Too bad I like fancy fussy food which is the polar opposite of his taste buds. This sounds like a great "Oh crap! It's 4:30 and I haven't even thought about dinner yet" dinner. Quick, easy and sure to please.

I think it was "Mikey, try it you'll like it", but I can't remember what cereal it was for. How old do you think old Mikey is by now? :-)

PS It's good over noodles, too.
